About Pharmacist Independent Prescriber

The fusion of the unique in-depth understanding of medicines by pharmacists together with the competence to prescribe without the need to consult another prescriber is a significant asset to the health services. A pharmacist independent prescriber is a qualified pharmacist responsible and accountable for the assessment of patients with diagnosed or undiagnosed conditions and for decisions about the clinical management required including prescribing. A pharmacist independent prescriber can prescribe for any condition within clinical competence. In order to qualify as an independent prescriber, a pharmacist must complete a GPhC ( General Pharmaceutical Council) university accredited training course that usually take around 6 months to complete.
